Search Engine Optimization
Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of affecting the visibility of a website or a web page in a web search engine’s unpaid results—often referred to as “natural”, “organic”, or “earned” results.
It is critical, especially for businesses, to have websites that are search engine optimized because properly search engine optimized sites appear first on the search engine results page (SERP’s). Think about it – when was the last time you went to the second page on a Google search?
Since a growing number of people are now searching online whenever they need to find something whether it is the nearest restaurant or the best hairdresser in town, it’s not enough to just have a website because if it’s not properly optimized, it won’t be found – ever.
Don’t be fooled, there are many con-artists claiming to be SEO consultants who take advantage of business owners and promise impossible results. When something sounds too good to be true, they usually are.
Here are the facts:
- You won’t get to the first page on Google overnight. In fact, it can takes weeks, sometimes months. Never hire anyone who promises quick turnaround and immediate results. Chances are, they will underdeliver and or use Black Hat SEO tactics that can get your brand or company permanently banned on SERP’s. How bad is getting banned? Ask JCPenny.
- Real SEO Consultants will sit down with you and discuss projects with you in person and will regularly follow up and brief you on updates. Never hire someone or a company that contacts you and tries to make you hire them without actually meeting you in person. Chances are, they will collect your money and disappear – never having done any of the work they promised to do. And guess what? Nine times out of ten, those scam artists or companies are fictional entities.
- Search Engine Optimization should only be done by a professional with a history of success working with various organizations. Don’t just take an individual’s word for it when they claim they’re SEO rockstars or some flashy bullshit like that. A real SEO Consultant doesn’t have to do all that because their résumé shows their capability without all the hyperboles.
